Karinto is a kind of Japanese confectionery, which is made by kneading wheat flour with sugar, water, yeast, salt and baking soda and forming a dough into a stick shape, deep-frying it in vegetable oil, mixing it with syrup made from brown sugar or white sugar and drying it. It is sometimes expressed as karinto (Japanese syllabary). A type of puffed food. It is a kind of deep-fried confectionery.
Karinto can be said to be the traditional dagashi (cheap sweets) that ordinary people are used to, but there is also karinto as a long-established product known for high-class Japanese confectionery.
